Object lesson on Tithing: Have someone come forward and do 10 pushups. Ask them “Which of the pushups were the hardest?” Obviously the first one was the easiest and the last one was the hardest. Give them 10 dollars. Ask them “If you had ten dollars and you gave one to the bishop and then you had 9 to spend, would that be hard?” Of course not. Ask them “If you had 10 dollars, and you spent 9 of them and you only had 1 left, would it be hard to give it to the bishop?” Yes, because it’s your last dollar. The first dollar in tithing, like the pushups, is the easiest, the last one is the hardest. Get in the habit of paying tithing first, and then spending the rest.

When you help children pay their tithing – get them thinking……Do you think your money will be used to build a new temple in this particular city, or fly a missionary to Guam or translate the Book of Mormon into a new language? Make it real and tangible.
