Make Your Life Colorful, But Remember to Stay in the Lines

Quotes

God has held you in reserve to make your appearance in the final days before the 2nd coming of the Lord.  Some individuals will fall away, but the kingdom of God will remain intact to welcome the return of its head – even Jesus Christ.  While our generation will be comparable in wickedness to the days of Noah when the Lord cleansed the earth by flood there is a major difference this time.  It is that God has saved for the final inning some of his strongest children who will help bear off the kingdom triumphantly….Make no mistake about it – you are a marked generation.  There has never been more expected of the faithful in such a short period of time than there is of us. – Ezra Taft Benson

Think about the future, that’s where you’re going to spend most of your time.

The idea of being unique almost seems a paradox.  We want to be recognized for making a worthy contribution in our lives; we want to be viewed as special, and yet we seem to cling so desperately to the idea that we do not want to be different from everyone else.

Quorum of 12 pondered the question “What is missing in the lives of our youth?” for two hours.  Results:

1. Testimony of Jesus Christ

2. Functioning quorums and presidencies

3. Mentors, dependable in ways of the Lord – administer vs. minister

4. Enough strong families

5. Friends in the church

6. Spiritual experiences.

“Recently I met an intelligent young man with outstanding parents.  There are exceptional material and spiritual resources available to him.  He attends a community college because it is easier than going to a university.  In his free time he does only those things that he likes to do.  He doesn’t work because he doesn’t need to, and it would take time away from his pleasures.  I ask him “Can I speak to you from my heart?  I don’t want to offend but rather to point out something.  You are making choices today that seem very reasonable to you.  They seem to give you what you want: an easy life with abundant enjoyment and not much sacrifice on your part.  You can do that for a while, but what you don’t realize is that every decision you make is narrowing your future.  You are eliminating possibilities and options.  There will come a time, and it won’t be too distant, where you are going to spend the rest of your life doing things you don’t want to do, in places you don’t want to be, because you have not prepared yourself.  You are not taking advantages of your opportunities.” – Richard G. Scott

We often hear about the stripling warriors – how valiant they were.  What do you think the young women who were their contemporaries were like?  Their sisters?  Their girlfriends?  I would imagine that they were every bit as righteous.  These young ladies were raised by the same mothers.  I doubt their mothers only bore testimony to their sons.  Young women today can use these young ladies as role models.

Drew Barrymore in her book “Wildflower”.  “It’s ironic that we rush through being “single” as if it’s some disease or malady to get rid of or overcome.  The truth is, most likely, one day you will meet someone and it will be gone.  And once it’s gone, it’s really gone!  Why does no one tell us how important it is to enjoy being single and being by yourself?  That time is defining and amazing and nothing to “cure.”  It is being alone that will actually set you up the best for being with someone else.
